Principal Investigator

The lead principal investigator is the primary individual in charge of a research grant, cooperative agreement, or other sponsored project. They are charged with assembling a team and leading the project as it is outlined in the proposal and award notification.


Responsibilities

  • Write a technical narrative proposal that includes a detailed statement of work.
  • Prepare the proposal budget, including personnel, equipment, travel, supplies, and other funds needed with a budget justification.
  • Obtain the necessary approvals and submit for review and approval in Cayuse.
  • Request award amendments in a timely manner.
  • Initiate revised budget requests (as needed).

Responsibilities

  • Promptly initiate the request of an advanced account to Post-Award if necessary.
  • Conduct sub-recipient monitoring including approval of subcontractor invoices.
  • Expend funds and maintain records in accordance with University/sponsor regulations.
  • Ensure accuracy of effort certification reports in accordance with policy.
  • Submit Progress Reports and disclosure forms to Agencies in a timely manner.
  • Approve final invoices/reports in a timely manner so that the final financial reports can be submitted to the sponsoring agency by the contract deadline.
